Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and sanitation of affected areas using industry-standard techniques and equipment
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely to remove damaged materials and prepare sites for restoration
- Assist with demolition, debris removal, and structural repairs as needed
- Apply restoration techniques to mitigate water, fire, or mold damage in residential or commercial properties
- Follow safety protocols at all times to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and team members
- CONTENTS RESTORATION TECHNICIAN
At First General Fort McMurray, we provide emergency mitigation services for damage caused by water, sewer back-ups, fire, smoke damage, wind damage, vehicle impacts, catastrophic storm response, bio/trauma clean-up, asbestos remediation, and full construction services.
We are in search of a Contents Restoration Technician to join our dynamic team. The Contents Restoration Technician plays a key role in the handling, inventorying, cleaning, and restoring of personal and commercial contents affected by fire, water, mold, or other disasters. This role involves both on-site and warehouse-based work and demands strong attention to detail, organization, and customer care.
This role requires a combination of physical strength, organizational skills, and excellent customer service. This position works closely and reports to the Content Manager, Production Manager, Field and Logistics Coordinator and respective Project Manager. This Technician must be organized and driven to complete projects to help clients return to their home.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Carefully pack, label, and transport personal property from affected sites to the warehouse or designated location.
- Use proper techniques and protective materials to prevent damage during handling.
- Assist in setting up containment for clean/dirty content separation when required.
- Perform photo documentation and detailed inventory of contents using digital tools (Encircle, Dash, etc.).
- Identify non-salvageable (NR) items and document for client review and insurance purposes.
- Track chain of custody for all items to ensure accurate return to client.
- Clean, deodorize, and sanitize contents using specialized tools and equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, ozone chambers, and HEPA vacuums.
- Separate and treat soft contents (textiles, clothing, upholstery) with appropriate procedures.
- Display empathy and professionalism when working in client homes or businesses.
- Clearly communicate timelines and expectations to clients when handling their belongings.
- Organize and maintain the contents storage area.
- Assist in returning restored items back to the customer site and reinstalling where required.
- Support the general cleanliness and inventory management of the warehouse.
- Ensure proper maintenance and operation of recovery equipment, including cleaning machines, drying equipment, and transportation vehicles.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including wearing appropriate protective gear.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents immediately.
- Assisting with equipment, supplies, and vehicles for emergency claims response.
- Working alongside the Lead Mitigation Technician and team to execute tasks according to project work scopes and requirements.
- Following instructions from Lead Mitigation Technician and Project Managers and communicate any concerns or updates promptly.
- Perform emergency job tasks such as packing, moving contents, tear-outs, setup of equipment, and cleaning.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in the restoration industry
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks as required
- Class 5 Drivers License with clean Driver’s Abstract
- Criminal Record Check clearance
- CSTS & WHMIS certification
- IICRC CPT certification considered an asset
- Willing to travel between sites in the Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Standard First Aid considered an asset
- Experience with demolition, mitigation or construction is an asset

Work Type: Full Time, Field
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Afterhours on-call rotation every 5 to 6 weeks for one week, 24/7, Monday to Monday
Travel: Primarily in Fort McMurray and area.
Salary: Starting $25 to $30 per hour based on experience and qualifications
Vacation: 6% vacation pay of earnings paid out on each paycheque
