The Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87 invites applications for a Development Technician. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact at the Planning & Development reception desk and is responsible for issuing electrical, gas, plumbing, and sewer permits while maintaining the rural addressing sign database. This position also serves as backup for the Development Assistant.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide customer service at the front counter and via telephone. Customer service includes responding to inquiries on behalf of the municipality for the functions and responsibilities related to this position.
- Review and issue permits across all Safety Codes disciplines.
- Enter, update, and maintain all associated data within the permitting system.
- Coordinate and schedule inspections, ensuring compliance with Safety Codes processes and timelines.
- Administer the complete rural addressing program, including updating the sign database, creating and assigning new rural addresses, and coordinating signage.
- Manage the full process for Seasonal Dock Access Authorizations, from receiving and reviewing applications to issuing approvals and maintaining associated records.
- Operate the electronic records management software program processing electronic and paper records as required, including filing records in the Planning & Development Department’s filing system (electronic and paper).
- Cash out and prepare bank deposits.
- Review Travis (Traffic Safety) Permits, and report to Senior Development Officer if required.
- Other duties within the scope of the position as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education required is a high school diploma.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in this field or a related field is preferred.
- Safety Permit Issuers Course.
- Demonstrate strong technical skills, attention to detail, work management, and problem-solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access) and GIS software.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
- Criminal Record Check with satisfactory results.
