Your Opportunity!
The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead is a contract position for a period of three to nine months, working three days per week. This is a key position at Knollcrest Lodge, responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of infection prevention and control programs.
Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications and the operational needs of the Home, there may also be opportunities to work additional shifts as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).
This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for residents, staff, and visitors by preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases.
The IPAC Lead ensures compliance with applicable legislation and standards, provides staff education on best practices, monitors infection trends, conducts audits, and leads outbreak management efforts. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective infection prevention and control policies and programs
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and protocols align with current legislation, regulatory standards, and best practices
- Liaise with local Public Health Units, Public Health Ontario, and the Ministry of Health/Long-Term Care to ensure compliance and timely reporting
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify infection hazards and monitor infection trends within the home
- Lead outbreak investigations and management efforts, and coordinate response efforts to contain and mitigate the spread of infectious diseases
- Develop and deliver staff training programs to support effective infection prevention practices
- Conduct routine audits to monitor compliance with IPAC practices, including proper use of PPE, hand hygiene, and cleaning/disinfection protocols
- Stay up-to-date on emerging infectious disease trends and evidence-based guidelines, and assess their implications for the home
- Act as the on-site subject matter expert and resource for all IPAC-related concerns from staff, residents, visitors, and external partners
- On-call may be required during outbreaks
Job Requirements:
- Completed post-secondary education in a health-related field (e.g., nursing, medicine, medical laboratory technology, public health, biology)
- Current certification in Infection Prevention and Control (e.g., LTC-CIP or CIC) is an asset
- Experience in infection prevention and control, preferably within a long-term care or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of PCC, Surge and Health Connex would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience leading IPAC programs, including policy implementation, outbreak management, and staff education/training
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidelines (e.g., Public Health Ontario, Ministry of Health/Long-Term Care)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
