Position Overview
The Deli Clerk & Cashier is responsible for providing excellent customer service while preparing, slicing, and packaging deli products, as well as operating the cash register to complete transactions efficiently and accurately. This role requires strong attention to detail, a positive attitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining food safety and cleanliness standards.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist customers with deli product selection, portion sizes, and special requests.
- Operate cash register, handle cash, credit/debit transactions, and provide accurate change.
- Resolve customer inquiries or refer them to a supervisor as needed.
Deli Operations
- Slice, weigh, package, and label meats, cheeses, and prepared foods.
- Prepare sandwiches, salads, and other specialty items.
- Ensure displays are fully stocked, rotated, and appealing.
- Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and hygiene procedures at all times.
General Duties
- Maintain cleanliness of deli cases, counters, equipment, and work areas.
- Monitor product freshness, check expiration dates, and reduce waste.
- Restock supplies such as packaging materials, condiments, and utensils.
- Follow company policies and safety regulations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Basic math skills and ability to handle money accurately.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
- Team-oriented with a positive and professional attitude.
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous retail, cashier, or food service experience an asset but not required (training provided). Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
