OVERVIEW
Hospital Profile
Michael Garron Hospital is a large, urban, full-service community teaching hospital, providing comprehensive care to a diverse population of 400,000 living within its primary catchment area. MGH is in the midst of a multi-phase redevelopment project that will transform health care delivery in east Toronto. Construction of a new eight-story patient care tower and three-story connection was recently completed, and the project is currently completing further renovations and planning the demolition of legacy wings on the campus When completed, the project will add up to approximately 550,000 square feet to the existing hospital.
The hospital provides a full range of programs and services for patients including complex continuing care, maternal/newborn/child services, general medicine, surgery and mental health. Annually we admit 20,000 acute care inpatients, deliver 3,500 babies, have over 70,000 emergency visits and provide service to over 200,000 outpatients. This is accomplished with the help of 2,400 employees, 440 physicians and midwives and over 500 adult and student volunteers. MGH has been the recipient of many awards including GTA's Top 100 Employers in 2020.
