Produce Clerk
Job Summary
The Produce Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the freshness, quality, and presentation of produce items in the store. This position involves providing excellent customer service, maintaining organized displays, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the produce section. The Produce Clerk supports the overall shopping experience by assisting customers, managing inventory, and upholding store standards.
Duties
- Stock, organize, and display fresh produce items to attract customers and maximize sales
- Assist customers with questions regarding produce selection, quality, and pricing
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the produce area, including cleaning displays and equipment
- Rotate stock to ensure freshness and proper inventory management
- Operate merchandising tools and equipment safely, including forklifts if certified
- Perform cashiering duties as needed to support checkout operations
- Monitor product quality and remove spoiled or damaged items promptly
- Restock supplies such as bags, labels, and signage to ensure a well-organized section
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient store operations and excellent customer service
Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail sales or grocery store environments is preferred
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers
- Bilingual abilities are a plus for serving a wider customer base
- Knowledge of merchandising techniques to display produce attractively
- Basic cleaning and maintenance skills to uphold hygiene standards
- Cashiering experience is beneficial for supporting checkout processes
- Ability to operate forklifts or other equipment safely (certification preferred)
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills for teamwork and customer interactions
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds as needed
