Our programs serve children from Infants to Preschool, and we are committed to maintaining high standards of care while adhering to all provincial child care regulations. We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Child Care Supervisor to help lead our dynamic team and maintain excellence in early childhood programming.
Position Overview
The Child Care Supervisor is a leadership position responsible for the overall management, planning, compliance, staff supervision, and curriculum delivery of the centre. The ideal candidate is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) with strong leadership experience and knowledge of child-centered learning approaches, including familiarity with Montessori philosophy and practices. The Supervisor will play an instrumental role in ensuring high-quality programming, maintaining regulatory compliance, mentoring staff, and creating a warm and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
Core Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Staff Supervision
- Provide daily leadership, mentoring, and direction to a team of early childhood educators, assistants, and support staff.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to promote professional collaboration, open communication, and reflective practice.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and develop individualized professional development plans for staff.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and evaluating new educators.
- Promote a culture of respect, empathy, professionalism, and inclusivity.
2. Curriculum Oversight
- Support the implementation of engaging, child-centered programming that reflects best practices in early learning and incorporates Montessori-inspired principles where appropriate.
- Support educators in preparing inviting learning environments and maintaining educational materials and learning areas.
- Guide curriculum planning in alignment with developmental milestones, play-based learning, and child-led exploration.
- Monitor daily activities to ensure a balance between independent learning, guided instruction, and collaborative experiences.
- Encourage the integration of outdoor learning, nature-based experiences, and practical life activities.
3. Compliance and Licensing
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation (e.g., Child Care and Early Years Act - CCEYA, or provincial equivalent).
- Maintain accurate documentation, including staff records, child files, incident reports, and daily attendance logs.
- Conduct routine health and safety inspections to ensure cleanliness, organization, and public health protocols.
- Lead the centre through licensing inspections, audits, and quality assurance visits.
- Keep up to date with changes in policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
4. Family Engagement & Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact for families regarding program details, child development, and centre policies.
- Foster positive relationships through daily interactions, formal meetings, and regular progress updates.
- Address concerns, inquiries, and conflicts in a professional, timely, and confidential manner.
- Plan and facilitate family engagement events such as parent nights, workshops, and holiday celebrations.
- Promote cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion within the community.
5. Administrative and Operational Support
- Assist with enrollment management, waitlist tracking, and orientation for new families.
- Prepare staffing schedules, approve time off requests, and manage daily ratios.
- Track and manage budgets, classroom supply inventories, and equipment maintenance.
- Utilize child care management systems and software for record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Collaborate with the Director/Owner on strategic planning, marketing, and centre development.

Required Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma or Degree
- Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (proof of good standing required)
- Montessori training or knowledge of Montessori philosophy considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a licensed child care setting, with at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory capacity
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check (upon hire)
- Immunization Record & Medical Check (upon hire)
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification
- Strong knowledge of child development theories, early learning frameworks, and child-centered teaching approaches
- Working knowledge of provincial child care legislation, licensing requirements, and pedagogical best practices
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- High level of professionalism, initiative, and emotional intelligence
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication, Microsoft Office, and childcare software systems (Lillio, etc. preferred)
