The Summer Fun Transportation Assistant position offers an opportunity to connect with the Nation’s children (ages 5 - 11) in a recreational and educational setting and to provide safe transportation during summer programming. This position will be managed by the Wellness Centre Manager and the Wellness Centre Program Supervisor. It will be under the general supervision of the Child Program Coordinator and other program leads. The Summer Fun Transportation Assistant will serve as a caring presence in the child’s life and will be available to provide safe transport to and from summer programming.
This position is from June 22, 2026 – September 4, 2026 (Monday and Friday).
The Candidate:

Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers in accordance with safety protocols and passenger health requirements.

Communicate professionally with children & youth, families, staff and others; provide general information and respond to inquiries of all passengers and their families.

Design and drive regular bus routes – communicating scheduling with families, service interruption and/or changes.

Supervise children and youth as necessary and/or assist elders at some events/outings.

Maintain a record of concerns/incidents regarding any problems encountered during passenger transportation, and notify the supervisor immediately when it is safe to do so.

Report any anticipated late delivery or pickup of passengers to the Supervisor or designate as soon as possible, and inform the passenger or parent of any changes wherever possible.

Ensure only approved passengers are transported to and from their destinations.

Observe all the road rules, including speed limits and safety regulations.

Always conduct oneself courteously and professionally.

Maintain a flexible schedule to ensure availability for occasional deliveries on behalf of departments and/or extra runs, and/or special activities (e.g., field trips/outings) outside normal working hours.

Perform daily pre- and post-van and/or bus trip safety inspections and report any necessary repairs or concerns. Ensure Nation vehicles are fueled and ready for service.

Ensure cleanliness of Nation vehicles: cleaning and sanitizing as needed after trips; ensuring an adequate supply of face masks and hand sanitizer is available.

Ensure that all vehicle-related equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and safety regulations. Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and inspections.

Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.

Attend training related to the position.

Minimum Grade 10 education; High School Diploma or equivalent desirable.

Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.

Knowledge of the community and city is required.

Respect for, sensitivity towards, knowledge, and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.

Be able to lift 40 lbs. when necessary.

Minimum Class 4 license with a clear driver's abstract throughout employment.

Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

CPR and First Aid Certificate.
