You'll work closely with our Freight Operations team, freight forwarders, and clients to ensure shipments clear customs smoothly and compliantly.
This is a critical compliance role — accuracy and up-to-date regulatory knowledge matter, as errors can result in delayed shipments, penalties, or audits. - Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations for goods imported into Canada, in compliance with CBSA regulations
- Determine correct tariff classification (HS codes), valuation, and applicable duties/taxes for imported goods
- Review and verify import documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, permits) for accuracy and completeness
- Manage CBSA release processes, including PARS/RMD submissions, and resolve customs holds or examinations
- Advise clients and internal teams on import regulations, trade compliance requirements, and duty relief programs (e.g., CUSMA/USMCA, duty drawback)
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records in line with CBSA recordkeeping requirements
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting tariffs, trade agreements, and import compliance, and communicate impacts to the team
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and drayage partners to ensure timely release and delivery of cargo
- Support internal audits and respond to CBSA inquiries, verifications, or compliance reviews as needed
Qualifications
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) designation or CBSA customs broker license required
- Prior experience working as a licensed customs broker or in a customs brokerage environment
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Customs Tariff, CBSA regulations, and trade agreements (CUSMA/USMCA and others)
- Experience with tariff classification, valuation methods, and duty/tax calculation
- Familiarity with CBSA systems and processes (e.g., CARM, PARS/RMD, AMPS)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and CBSA correspondence
- Experience in eCommerce, 3PL, or freight forwarding is an asset
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in International Trade, Business, or a related field preferred
