Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Rail Systems Engineer – RAMS to support Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) activities for a High-Speed Rail (HSR) Program. The successful candidate will work as part of an integrated systems engineering team supporting RAMS planning, analysis, integration, and verification across rail infrastructure, stations, and systems packages. This role will interface closely with systems engineering, safety, design, requirements management, and verification teams. As part of our USA team, you will help shape the systems architecture and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) activities for one of the most ambitious rail programs in North America.
This position is currently part-time and contract opportunity while it offers a path toward becoming a fulltime Lead Systems Engineer, RAMS Manager, or Systems Engineering Discipline Lead, within a company committed to solving complex engineering challenges around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and implementation of RAMS strategies aligned with the HSR Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP)
- Perform reliability and availability analysis, including RAM allocation, performance targets, and design trade‑off assessments
- Support maintainability requirements definition, maintenance concept development, and lifecycle performance considerations
- Contribute to system safety activities, including hazard identification, hazard tracking, and risk mitigation coordination
- Develop and maintain RAMS documentation, including reports, analyses, and supporting evidence suitable for audit and certification
- Ensure RAMS requirements are allocated, traced, and verified within the requirements management system (e.g., DOORS / DOORS Next)
- Interface with design disciplines to integrate RAMS considerations into civil, systems, and operational designs
- Support verification and validation (V&V) activities related to RAMS requirements and performance targets
- Participate in technical reviews, workshops, and coordination meetings with project stakeholders
- Support preparation of milestone deliverables aligned with HSR design and certification phases
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline)
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in rail, transit, or safety‑critical infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated experience delivering RAMS engineering services for rail, transit, or transportation systems
- Strong understanding of systems engineering (V‑Model) principles and lifecycle processes
- Experience working with requirements management and traceability tools and processes
- Familiarity with international rail RAMS standards (e.g., EN 50126/28/29) and their application in large programs
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience supporting high‑speed rail or major rail transit programs
- Experience working on publicly funded or federally supported infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with safety certification and hazard management processes
- Experience working within multi‑consultant, multi‑package delivery environments
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) or equivalent licensure preferred
