The Town of Canmore is currently accepting applications and looking to fill casual positions as Assistant Lifeguard. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about aquatics and wanting to make a positive impact in our community! This is a great position for a high school student who is looking to build workplace skills.
Position Overview: The Assistant Lifeguard supports the safety supervision function and provision of services at the Town of Canmore’s Aquatics Centre at Elevation Place. As a junior member of the Aquatics team, and under the guidance of our certified National Lifeguards, the Assistant Lifeguard is responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and sanitary environment. In addition to providing safety supervision of the pools, you will provide emergency support to the lifeguards and instructors, provide exceptional customer service, participate in team training sessions, and ensure the ongoing cleanliness and maintenance of our excellent facilities. This is a great position for someone who is looking to make a positive contribution to their community, learn about the aquatics industry, and build skills to become a fully certified lifeguard!
Core Accountabilities:
- Follow standard operating procedures that contribute to a safe environment and outstanding customer service
- Ensure a safe atmosphere for all patrons by adhering to Lifesaving Society Standards
- Support National Lifeguards with the safety supervision of their assigned zone within the Aquatics Centre
- Under the supervision of a National Lifeguard, provide first aid and rescue response in a prompt, professional manner in adherence to current certification standards and workplace health and safety practices
- Respect customer confidentiality and adhere to all relevant industry regulations, acts and guidelines
- Implement aquatic department policies as outlined by the Lifesaving Society’s Public Aquatic Facility Safety Standards, Head Lifeguard, and the Aquatic Supervisor
- Promote a positive, professional image of the Town of Canmore and provide consistent, high-quality customer service to all patrons of the facility
- Promote Recreation programs and services to patrons
- Respect customer confidentiality and adhere to all relevant industry regulations, acts and guidelines
Education & Attributes: Possession of the following qualifications and experience will help you to be successful in this role:
- Bronze Cross
- Intermediate First Aid & CPR “C”
- The minimum working age for this position is 15 years of age
- Strong interpersonal skills; Confident, personable and approachable nature
- A willingness to go above and beyond in providing excellent customer service
- Safety-oriented mindset as ensuring safety is one of the top priorities of this role
- Able to work in loud, busy, wet, environment while maintaining a focus on safety
- Able to proactively ensure a safe environment
- Able to maintain order and solve concerns in a professional, helpful manner

Term & Salary: This is an ongoing part time no benefit position targeted to start Sept 19th , 2026. The number of hours worked will vary week to week, depending on your availability and shifts available. Successful applicants will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The pay rate for this position is $18.98.
