Role Overview
The Fabrication Fitter is responsible for assembling, fitting, and preparing metal components and structures in accordance with engineering drawings, welding procedures, and quality standards. This role plays a critical part in ensuring fabricated assemblies meet dimensional tolerances, structural requirements, and customer specifications within a manufacturing, heavy fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions.
· Lay out, position, align, and fit and assemble structural steel, plate, and custom metal components following blueprints.
· Position components in jigs or fixtures and use hand and power tools (files, chisels, grinders, saws, drills, torches) to trim and adjust parts for proper fit-up to ensure they meet the print requirements.
· Use measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and micrometers to ensure dimensional accuracy.
· Tack weld components in correct sequence to maintain alignment and minimize distortion (where qualified and permitted).
· Prepare joints for welding by cleaning, beveling, grinding, and ensuring proper fit-up.
· Work closely with welders, supervisors, and quality personnel to ensure assemblies meet required standards.
· Perform visual inspections of fit-up prior to final welding and report non-conformances.
· Follow work orders, production schedules, and shop priorities to meet deadlines.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies and OHSA regulations.
· Assist with rework and repairs as required
· Assist the team in looking for better ways to manufacture the parts.
Qualifications & Skills
· Proven experience as a Fabrication fitter/ Welder-fitter in a heavy manufacturing environment
· Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings (blueprints) and welding symbols.
· Solid understanding of fabrication methods, joint preparation, and weld distortion control.
· Proficient with common shop math and measurement conversions.
· Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately.
· Experience with structural steel, pressure components, or custom fabrications is an asset.
· Forklift and overhead crane experience considered an asset.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Trade certification in metal fabrication or related field considered an asset.
· Minimum 2 years of fabrication fitting experience preferred.
· Must be able to speak, read, and understand English to safely follow work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures.
Working Conditions
· Shop environment with exposure to noise, sparks, grinding debris, and moving equipment.
· Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
· Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have an attention for detail to ensure tight deadlines are met.

Pay: $25.00 per hour
