Job Description:
The Happy Face Nursery School Cook is a valued member of our child care team. This person prepares healthy meals and snacks for children 12 months – 12 years of age. Happy Face has several locations, and the Head Cook is responsible for overseeing the purchase of supplies, preparation of foods, and ensuring timely delivery to all locations. This is a permanent full time position.
Position Qualifications:
The person selected for this position must be at least 18 years of age and meet the requirement of the licensing agency. This person must be able to relate well to children and be willing to fulfill responsibilities under the direction of the Executive Director in accordance with the school’s Board of Directors, Policy & Procedure Manual, Eastern Ontario Health Unit, and Ministry of Education. This person should have knowledge of current nutrition and Food Safety practices. This person must provide, at their own expense, a clear Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Check), a current driver’s license, and a clean driver’s abstract.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Oversee the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals and snacks for children at all Happy Face locations in accordance with guidelines provided
· Ensure the maintenance of kitchen supplies and equipment according to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit recommendations and the Food Preparation Policies and Procedures of Happy Face Nursery School
· Develop and plan menus, in coordination with the Executive Director
· Successfully complete and maintain any necessary food preparation courses/training necessary to meet occupational standards
· Maintain health and safety standards required in the safe handling of foods at all times
· Oversee the purchase of groceries necessary to provide meals in accordance with healthy eating practices, recommendations of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, and the policies and procedures of Happy Face Nursery School
· Complete and submit monthly balanced petty cash reports for kitchen and grocery expenses
· Ensure safe storage and transportation of prepared food
· Work with the Assistant Cook and Site Supervisors to ensure the scheduled delivery of foods
· Communicate effectively with Site Supervisors to ensure adequate and appropriate quantities of food are provided to all sites
· Ensure safe storage of all harmful materials, for example, cleaning products and sterilizing products
· Identify safety hazards and ensure they are removed immediately and inspect items for good repair
· Respect parents, staff, and children while performing duties
· Respect confidentiality with parents, children, other staff and Board of Directors
Read all school policy and procedural documents and sign understanding of them
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $21.00-$26.00 per hour
