ARCHAEOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN - SUMMER YOUTH POSITION
Stó:lō Service Agency (SSA) requires the services of an Archaeological Technician - Summer Youth Position to work with the Stó:lō Research and Resource Management Centre (SRRMC). This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program and will run from mid-June until end of August.

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
This position will report to the Heritage Stewardship & Archaeology Unit Manager, Project Archaeologists, and Archaeologists. The successful candidate will work out of the Central (Chilliwack) Office.
The Archaeological Technician will work alongside the SRRMC Heritage Stewardship & Archaeology team to help manage Stó:lō cultural heritage resources within S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō Traditional Territory) and will participate in the following tasks:
- Field work to assist in the administration of the Stó:lō Heritage Policy through the identification, protection, documentation, and preservation of Stó:lō belongings, places on the landscape, and Stó:lō ways of being, doing, and knowing.
- Field work preparation and support such as vehicle detailing and maintenance as well as equipment inventory and maintenance.
- Office, laboratory, and repository tasks that include washing and cataloguing collected materials and samples, digitizing notes and maps, and organizing materials and samples.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Familiarity and understanding of Stó:lō and/or other First Nations culture, traditions and history with a commitment to learning more about Stó:lō culture and history.
- Knowledge or interested in learning more about the Stó:lō Heritage Policy.
- Must have strong organizational skills, be hardworking, a team player, and be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain a healthy working relationship with staff, community representatives/members and representatives of other organizations. Including collaboration with other SSA programs and staff as required.
- Familiarity with a variety of Windows computer programs including MS Word/ Excel and Apple products.
- Effective attention to detail, problem-identification and problem-resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality guidelines for all records, materials and communications concerning clients, staff and SSA.
- Physically fit for daily outdoor work in rough terrain: hiking, shovel testing, and excavation.
- Must be capable of lifting and carrying equipment and/or boxes of up to 50 lbs.
- Drug and alcohol testing is required based on the project.

SALARY RANGE: $20.00-23.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications/experience.
