Registered Early Childhood Educator
This is a rare opportunity to join a unionized, not for profit centre in mid town Toronto.
Full time RECE position
$31.41 per hour + $2.00 PWE per hour for a total of $33.41 per hour in 2026.
Split shifts of 5 hours on school days allowing you time during the day to do other tasks or to pursue your education further. Many of our staff also work in the lunch programs at different schools. This can be an advantage with a split shift.
For full time permanent employees:
5 hour shifts on school days
7 hour shifts on non-instructional days.
Approximate breakdown is 39 weeks at 25 hours per week and 13 weeks at 35 hours per week
Staff meetings and mandatory professional development workshops are paid for by the Employer and staff are paid for their time attending.
15 days vacation for the first two years, 20 days thereafter
18 sick days that can be accumulated to a maximum of 85 days
3 personal days
Daily programming time of one hour

Reimbursement of your College of ECE annual dues
RRSP participation with an Employer contribution

Part time permanent employees:
3.5 hour afternoon shifts on school days
7 hour shifts on non-instructional days.
Approximate breakdown is 39 weeks at 17.5 hours per week and 13 weeks at 35 hours per week
Staff meetings and mandatory professional development workshops are paid for by the Employer and staff are paid for their time attending.
15 days vacation for the first two years, 20 days thereafter
18 sick days that can be accumulated to a maximum of 85 days
3 personal days $100 per month stipend in lieu of benefits Daily programming time of one hour
Reimbursement of your College of ECE annual dues
RRSP participation with an Employer contribution
To be considered for these positions you must:
Be registered and in good standing with the College of ECE – sorry we are not hiring ECAs, only RECEs
Have hands-on, real world experience working with children in a child care and/or school setting, preferably with children ages 4 – 10 years of age
Must be legally able to work in Canada – sorry, no overseas sponsorships are available
Up to date immunization required by Toronto Public Health and/or Health Canada; 2 step TB test and a doctor’s letter that states you are fit to work in child care
Successful completion of a Vulnerable Services Criminal Reference Check
Up to date CPR – C and Standard First Aid
Minimum of three professional references including at least one from a supervisor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In co-operation with the other Supervisor ensure:
1. The planning, implementing and evaluation of a physically safe and emotionally stimulating and supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of children in all aspects of development.
2. Ensure that program practices are consistent with the regulations and guidelines set out by the Child Care Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen and the Assessment for Quality Improvement and the policies, procedures, and philosophy of Maurice Cody Child Care
3. Responsible for ensuring that the daily program:
· Is a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, individual/group activities.
· Promotes and enhances creativity in all program areas i.e. arts & crafts, dramatic play, cognitive activities, outdoor activities, science and nature, fine/gross motor and sensory activities.
· Promotes positive social experiences and respect for others and self-sufficiency
· Provides experiences and play materials that actively promote inclusion for all
4. Responsible for the orderly arrangement, appearance and learning environment of the classroom including checking that activity areas, toys and equipment are safe and sanitary, set up and cleaned up activity areas.
5. Responsible for the safety and general well-being of the children by conducting health checks, recording illnesses and contacting parents, administering medication as directed by physicians and maintaining accurate records.
6. Administer first aid as needed, report and document all first aid incidents.
7. Responsible for ensuring written observations for all children are completed. Verifying that observations are used in planning activities for the children. Ensuring the rooms are engaged in a play based program. Recommend referrals of children to management for additional supports as necessary.
8. Discuss children’s progress, behaviour and health with parents/designated individuals, answer questions regarding children, the group and the centre while maintaining confidentiality.
9. Ensure positive communication with parents.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in staff meetings
2. Attends staff development workshops to remain current in the Early Childhood Education field.
3. Cooperates and participates with health and safety legislation and instructions for a safe and healthy workspace.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· ECE diploma/degree and Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators – registration number must be provided with your application
· Have experience working with children in a classroom setting that provides care for kindergarten and school age children.
- Experience in a school based childcare setting is an asset
· Working knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act, ELECT, How Does Learning Happen and the Assessment for Quality Improvement.
- Organized and able to prioritize work demands to meet the operational needs of the centre
· Ability to maintain neat and accurate records as required.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
· Ability to handle emergencies, conflict resolution skills between children
· Holder of valid, current Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR-C.
· Current police vulnerable services sector check
· Ability to work as a valuable and viable member of a childcare team.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday to Friday with occasional evening work as required.
Shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm
