Yorktown Family Services is a community-based non-profit social services agency dedicated to providing effective, accessible, quality mental health treatment, prevention, and outreach services to children, youth, women, and families in West Toronto. We are uniquely organized to deliver services through two independent but integrated organizations: Infant, Child, and Youth Mental Health & West Toronto Youth Hub — a children’s mental health center, and Violence Against Women Services — a shelter for women and their children who are fleeing an abusive relationship.
Primary Function:
The Finance Manager role will play an integral role as a member of the management team by developing and coordinating the organization’s budgets and overseeing financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and funder requirements, supporting the annual organizational audit preparation and project audits, providing strategic advice and providing recommendations on all matters related to organizational finances.
Responsibilities:
- Support the annual budget planning cycles ensuring that the process includes timely consultation with all departments, including detailed expenditures for both personnel and programs.
- Support the annual audit process by ensuring the auditor checklist is completed and responding to queries from the Auditors.
- Oversee the Accountant in the management of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable function as it relates to reviewing entries, account status, payment/collection schedules and preparation of reconciliation of accounts. Ensure that internal controls are in place and are monitored
- Identify and mitigate funding requirements in reporting.
- Audit bi-weekly Payroll prior to submission.
- Review and approve draft annual payroll reconciliations e.g. EHT, WSIB, T4A, Taxable Benefits provided by the accountant.
- Provide draft preliminary T3010 Annual Charity Return and associated schedules for the required data for submission.
- Support the collective bargaining process with requested costing and scenarios.
- Provide statistical and financial analysis data and prepare reports and correspondence as requested for multiple and diverse funders.
- Provide support for funding submissions including budgets and forecasting.
- Reconcile Balance sheet account and identifying changes, provide explanation and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Adhere to internal controls and finance policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff providing guidance and support to the payroll personnel and Accountant.
- Support Agency events and fundraising activities.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
· A CPA designated or in progress is strongly preferred and/or other equivalent combination of education and demonstrated work experience with comparable duties.
· Minimum of 3 years of progressive and related finance and accounting
experience.
· Previous experience in supervising others is considered an asset.
· Experience working in a not-for-profit and unionized environment considered a strong asset.
· Advanced computer skills with a proficiency with SAGE Intacct and/or other accounting software and Microsoft Office
· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to meet tight and competing deadliness with accuracy
· Able to work productively both independently and as a team member
· Vulnerable Sector Screening Required
