Rising Above has supported individuals who are struggling in a cycle of defeat which has primarily included addiction, homelessness, and incarceration through the 6-month residential treatment program based on the H.E.L.P.S. model.

Role Purpose
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, screening, training, supporting, and retaining volunteers who contribute to the mission of Rising Above. This role builds and sustains a thriving volunteer programme that connects individuals, churches, professionals, and community members with meaningful opportunities to support recovery and restoration.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator serves as a key ambassador of Rising Above's mission by helping volunteers understand, embrace, and contribute to the ministry's Christ-centred approach to recovery and participant care. The Volunteer Coordinator oversees all aspects of the volunteer journey, from recruitment and onboarding to ongoing engagement and recognition. This role works closely with programme staff to identify volunteer needs, develop volunteer opportunities, ensure appropriate training and supervision, and create a positive volunteer experience that reflects the mission, vision, and values of Rising Above. Reports to Program Manager
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding
- Recruit, screen, interview, and assess volunteers from churches, community groups, professionals, recovery communities, and the broader public.
- Coordinate volunteer applications, references, criminal record checks, onboarding paperwork, and orientation.
- Match volunteers with opportunities based on their gifts, experience, interests, spiritual maturity, and alignment with ministry needs and values.
Volunteer Training & Supervision
- Provide orientation and training on Rising Above's mission, values, Statement of Faith, participant care philosophy, and faith-based approach to recovery.
- Develop and deliver volunteer training related to recovery, boundaries, confidentiality, safety, and role expectations.
- Clearly define volunteer roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures to ensure consistency and accountability.
- Provide ongoing support, coaching, and follow-up to help volunteers succeed and grow in their service.
Volunteer Engagement & Community Building
- Foster a welcoming and encouraging volunteer culture that promotes connection, belonging, and long-term engagement.
- Encourage volunteers to participate in ministry events, training opportunities, and community-building activities that strengthen connection to the mission and culture of Rising Above.
- Support volunteers serving as Recovery Mentors, Financial Coaches, Community Resource Support Volunteers, Life Skills Facilitators, and other ministry roles.
Administration & Programme Coordination
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, schedules, training logs, and documentation in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with programme staff to identify volunteer needs and ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into ministry operations.
- Monitor volunteer participation, evaluate programme effectiveness, and provide reports and recommendations to leadership.

Qualifications
- Secondary education with 3-5 year experience in Christian ministry, social services, or related field
- Experience recruiting, coordinating, or leading volunteers, training and group activities.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organisational, administrative, and problem-solving abilities.
- Spiritually mature, dependable, and aligned with the mission and values of Rising Above.
