Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic cook to join our team at Acorn Adventure Academy within our child care program. This position involves providing exceptional food service, preparing meals, and maintaining a clean and sanitary environment throughout the facility. The cook will oversee daily kitchen operations, manage food preparation, monitor inventory, and create a variety of dishes, including soups, salads, entrées, and desserts. The successful candidate will be committed to quality and ensure that all food is prepared in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Properly store food and ingredients to ensure freshness.
- Assist in stocking and preparing the kitchen.
- Prepare food by weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients according to recipes.
- Keep work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes organized and clean.
- Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas regularly.
- Ensure that kitchen operations and cleanliness meet food safety standards and regulations.
- Perform general cleaning tasks, such as sweeping and mopping the kitchen, laundry room, bathrooms, classrooms, and common areas in the facility.
- Strip beds and complete the laundry process.
- Do laundry for towels, cloths, and bedding.
- Restock essential supplies in bathrooms and classrooms.
- Clean classroom toys.
- Perform additional relevant tasks as assigned by the Program Director(s).
Qualifications
- Experience in serving or food service roles is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
- Familiarity with food handling safety standards and sanitation practices.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of restaurant operations and customer service excellence.
- Willingness to learn new skills related to meal preparation and food safety standards.
- Valid First Aid Level C training.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Food safety certification is required.
Working Conditions
- This job is set in an early learning environment.
- Exposure to very hot temperatures.
- May be exposed to safety hazards (e.g., slippery floors, hot ovens, sharp objects).
- Working on your feet for most of the day.
- May require varied shifts and hours outside of the typical working schedule.
- Work typically starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM from Monday to Friday.
- Salary: $15.00 per hour.
- Physical labor may be required, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and products.
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
