# AI-Native Full Stack Engineer
Full-time / Remote (Canada — EST time zone preferred)
---
## About Us
We build software platforms for the global scaffolding and temporary works industry. Our products work as one connected suite spanning several families:
- **CRM, estimating, and project management** for scaffolding and construction businesses.
- **Field execution** — inspections, on-site workflows, and mobile-first tooling.
- **Asset and equipment tracking** across yards and sites.
- **AI-powered design** — scaffold design, 3D modelling, and structural analysis.
- A central **admin and identity platform** handling subscriptions, licensing, SSO, and security across the suite.
We're a small team shipping greenfield and early-stage products that touch real-world projects: materials, loads, costs, and safety.

## The Shift: This Is an AI-Native Role
The way we build has changed. **Being AI-native is now more important to us than traditional, hand-written software development.** We're not looking for someone who treats AI as an occasional autocomplete — we want an engineer whose default workflow is built around LLMs, agents, and AI-assisted delivery, and who can also **build AI features into the product itself.**
Equally, as our suite shares one identity and security layer across web apps, desktop apps, and licensed engines, **deep proficiency in OAuth, OpenID Connect, and application security is now more valuable to us than breadth in any other single area.** If you think in tokens, claims, scopes, and trust boundaries as fluently as you think in components and queries, you'll thrive here.
Everything else — .NET, React, 3D — is the delivery stack. These two capabilities are the core.
---
## What You'll Do
- Build features **AI-first**: use AI coding agents and LLM tooling as your primary development workflow, and design systems that are easy for both humans and agents to extend.
- Ship **AI product capabilities** across the suite — turning natural language into structured, validated actions via LLM function-calling and assistive design UX.
- Build **command-driven product workflows** where UI actions, AI actions, backend validation, audit/history, and recovery paths all use the same explicit domain commands.
- Own **authentication and security** end to end: OpenID Connect with our central identity platform as auth server, JWT/claims validation, role- and permission-based access, and Named-User / Floating license enforcement.
- Design and build **backend services** in C# / ASP.NET Core with REST APIs and service-oriented architecture.
- Develop **modern React + TypeScript frontends**, including data-heavy UIs, operational workflows, and interactive 2D/3D editors.
- Implement **2D/3D visualisation** in the browser, including drawing surfaces, technical annotations, dimensions, and Three.js / React Three Fiber model views.
- Integrate across the suite and with external systems — CAD/BIM tools, project management, ERP/accounting.
- Contribute to **architecture, performance, testing, and CI/CD** standards.

## Must-Have Skills & Experience
### 1. AI-Native Development *(core)*
- **Hands-on, daily fluency with AI coding agents — required, not optional.** You are comfortable and productive in **Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and GitHub Copilot**, and treat them as your primary development workflow, not a novelty.
- Practical experience integrating **LLM APIs** (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) into production software.
- **Prompt engineering** and **function-calling / structured output** (JSON schema) for reliable, structured execution.
- Comfort designing **command-schema and mapping logic** that turns natural language into validated, executable actions.
- Experience building AI action systems with validation layers, permission checks, error recovery, evals, logging, and guardrails.
- Sound judgement on where AI helps and where it doesn't — you ship correct, testable systems, not demos.
### 2. Authentication & Security *(core)*
- Strong, hands-on understanding of **OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect** — flows, tokens, scopes, and trust boundaries.
- **JWT validation and claims-based access control**; experience securing APIs and SPAs.
- **Role- and permission-based authorization** down to individual resources and actions.
- Experience with tenant isolation, resource-level permissions, feature flags, subscription/licensing checks, and audit logging.
- Experience with an **identity provider / SSO** setup (Auth0 or equivalent); understanding of Named-User vs Floating license models is a strong plus.
- Security-first instincts: secret management, token lifecycle, least privilege.
### 3. Backend (.NET + Architecture)
- We care more about demonstrated velocity, judgement, and shipped work than years of experience; as a guide, this role is likely a fit for someone with 3+ years of production engineering experience, or an exceptional earlier-career engineer with strong AI-native delivery proof.
- **C# / ASP.NET Core** for production APIs, background services, and service architecture.
- **Entity Framework Core** with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, indexes, transactions, query tuning, concurrency, **JSONB**, and advanced JSON document handling.
- **API design** — REST APIs, versioning, validation, error handling, and clear service contracts.
- **FluentValidation**, DTO/service boundaries, and clean, testable service design.
- Experience modeling complex business workflows as explicit state machines, domain services, or well-structured application services.
- Experience with command-driven systems: explicit commands, validation, undo/redo, audit/history, optimistic UI, backend reconciliation, and failure recovery.
- Experience with background jobs, queues, scheduled tasks, imports/exports, notifications, and long-running operations.
- Strong integration skills: REST APIs, webhooks, file imports/exports, third-party systems, idempotency, retries, and failure handling.
### 4. Frontend (React + 2D/3D)
- **React + TypeScript** SPAs with modern patterns (components, hooks, routing, data fetching).
- **React Three Fiber + Three.js** for real product visualisation, including camera controls, instancing, GLB/glTF assets, procedural fallback geometry, and performance tuning.
- Experience building custom web-based drawing/editor surfaces: SVG or canvas-style interaction, selection, snapping, transforms, annotations, dimensions, layers, and export.
- **Zustand** for client/editor state; **TailwindCSS** and shared component-library patterns for the UI layer.
- **TanStack Query / React Query** for data fetching and caching.
- Comfort with rich, data-heavy UIs: tables, filters, dashboards, wizards, complex forms, optimistic updates, validation, and stateful workflows.
### 5. Engineering / Math Mindset
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; comfortable reasoning about formulas, units, dimensions, and constraints.
- Strong TypeScript geometry skills: vectors, matrices, coordinate systems, units, measurements, spatial queries, snapping, dimensions, transforms, and 2D/3D interaction patterns.
- Ability to break complex engineering problems into clean, testable components.
---
## How We Evaluate Technical Fit
- You can walk through systems you've personally built: data models, auth boundaries, API contracts, failure cases, test strategy, deployment, and tradeoffs.
- You can explain how you would protect a sensitive action end to end: identity, permissions, validation, audit logging, error handling, and rollback/retry behavior.
- You can reason through a complex workflow and turn it into clear backend services, frontend state, database changes, and tests.
- You can show examples of AI-assisted development or AI product features where correctness, validation, and maintainability mattered.
---
## Infrastructure & DevOps (AWS-Centric)
- AWS **S3 + CloudFront** for asset hosting and frontend delivery.
- **Elastic Beanstalk or ECS Fargate** for API hosting.
- Background jobs and real-time app features using tools such as **Hangfire** and **SignalR** where appropriate.
- Future use of **Redis / ElastiCache** for caching, coordination, or collaborative workflows.
- **CI/CD** with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- **AWS IAM and secret management**; **CloudWatch** for logs, metrics, alarms.
- **Docker** for local dev and deployments.
---
## Nice-to-Haves (Big Pluses)
- **Structural / engineering knowledge:** scaffold system design (bays, ledgers, transoms, stairs), applicable safety/design regulations, and structural load-path reasoning (dead/live/point loads, stability checks). A B.Eng/M.Eng in Civil/Structural Engineering or strong equivalent experience is a real plus.
- Experience with **FEA tooling** and defining/validating design rules programmatically.
- **CAD/BIM integration:** IFC, DWG/DXF workflows, BCF viewpoints/issues, exchange with BIM authoring/coordination tools via open formats, glTF/GLB assets, and BIM coordination principles.
- **Viewer & XR:** web-based 3D viewers, 2D overlay with markup/dimensioning, PDF annotation/export, mobile-first inspection UIs, and AR/VR via WebXR, ARCore/ARKit, or Unity.
- Experience with **event-driven or microservice-oriented** architectures.
- Background in **engineering, construction, or industrial** software (estimating, planning, project controls).
---
## Testing & QA
- Strong habits around unit, integration, and regression testing.
- Comfort writing tests for complex UI interactions and stateful workflows.
- Attention to edge cases in geometric and data-heavy logic.
