Animal Care Attendant
Working with and providing care for a variety of animal species including dogs, cats, rabbits, and barn animals such as horses, cows, pigs, chickens etc.
While this position works mainly with domestic animals, applicants must also be able to work with barn animals as the sanctuary is multi-species. This position requires being available for shift work including graveyard / overnight and weekend shifts. The sanctuary operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Job requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Education and / or experience in an animal related field (preferred)
- Experience working directly with animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, farm animals etc.
- Passion for animal welfare and the five freedoms
- Understand and align with the SAINTS mission - see website (www.saintsrescue.ca )
- Flexible availability for shift work, including weekends
- Preferred experience with administrating medication, Oral, SubQ, IM
- Preferred experience with expressing cats
- Must be physically fit and able to lift 50lbs. (lifting hay bales etc.)
- Must be able to work with animal related products including hay, wood chips and cat litter
- Current certification in WHMIS and Basic First Aid are assets

- Starting wage: $19.00 per hour
- Extended health benefits will be provided after 90 days of employment.
Duties
- Provide excellent care to any animal(s) assigned to the employee's care.
- Provide fresh water, food and any medications needed.
- Ensure the animal(s) have enrichment and have a stress/fear free environment.
- Ensure all animal enclosures are kept clean and follow cleaning mandates.
- Ensure each room and equipment within the facility assigned to employee, is kept clean and organized, including but not limited to bathrooms, fridges, equipment etc.
- Report any facility issues requiring repair or maintenance
- Report any issues with sanctuary animals to supervisors (Including but not limited to, not eating, not drinking, refusal of medications, defecating issues, urinating issues, unusual behavior)
- Ensure that documentation is kept up to date; including check lists, medication records, wellness records, vaccinations, deworming etc.
- Be willing to work with a variety of different species including farm, exotic and domestic companion animals.
- Any other duties assigned to you.
