Job Summary
RoyalCare Community Services is hiring a Back Office Warehouse Worker / Furniture Repair Technician to support the operations of the Royal Furniture Bank. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in woodworking, furniture repair, furniture handling, and warehouse operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving donated furniture, inspecting items for quality and safety concerns, completing basic repairs, assisting with warehouse organization, and helping load and unload furniture from delivery trucks. This position requires someone who is physically capable, detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and intake incoming furniture donations at the warehouse.
- Inspect all furniture items for cleanliness, damage, structural issues, and potential concerns such as bed bugs or other pests.
- Identify furniture that can be repaired, restored, reused, or must be rejected due to safety or hygiene concerns.
- Perform basic furniture repairs, including tightening, sanding, gluing, fixing legs, repairing frames, touching up wood, and minor upholstery-related support when needed.
- Use basic woodworking tools and equipment safely and properly.
- Assist with unloading furniture from trucks and bringing items into the warehouse.
- Help load furniture onto trucks for delivery to clients or partner organizations.
- Organize furniture within the warehouse to keep the space clean, safe, and easy to navigate.
- Support inventory tracking by labelling, sorting, and documenting furniture items as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and safe handling of furniture.
- Work closely with drivers, movers, warehouse staff, and administrative staff to support daily operations.
- Report damaged, unsafe, or pest-contaminated items to management immediately.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in woodworking, furniture repair, carpentry, or furniture restoration is required.
- Previous experience working in a warehouse, moving company, furniture store, donation centre, or similar environment is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of how to inspect furniture for damage, cleanliness, pests, and general usability.
- Experience using basic hand tools and power tools safely.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and move heavy furniture as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify repair needs.
- Comfortable working in a warehouse setting.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be physically fit and able to stand, bend, lift, and move throughout the shift.

Physical Requirements

Preferred Assets
- Experience inspecting furniture for bed bugs or other pest concerns.
- Experience working with donated or second-hand furniture.
- Experience in furniture assembly, repair, refinishing, or restoration.
- Forklift or warehouse equipment experience is an asset but not required.
