Our client is seeking an individual with a genuine passion for construction and building systems, paired with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and complex piping layouts. The ideal candidate is naturally curious and enjoys diving into digital design tools, building codes, and technical challenges. They have the ability to understand how all the pieces come together and help turn a design vision into a practical, buildable solution.

Role Responsibilities
Technical & Code Compliance
- Interpret and apply all applicable plumbing, gas, mechanical and building code requirements.
- Review IFC drawings, specifications, schedules and details to fully understand the project scope.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, omissions and code deficiencies.
- Develop technical solutions and prepare RFIs where clarification is required.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings without compromising quality.
- Review approved shop drawings and product data for technical compliance.
- Verify dimensions, capacities, connection sizes, materials and accessories.
- Ensure all approved products align with the design intent before incorporation into the model.
Design & Model Leadership
- Provide technical direction to the BIM team throughout the modeling process.
- Verify equipment selections, pipe sizing, fittings, valves and assemblies before modeling progresses.
- Perform detailed constructability reviews prior to fabrication.
Coordination & Procurement
- Review models to develop accurate material requirements.
- Assist with procurement planning and prioritization throughout the project.
- Provide technical support to subcontractors during model coordination.
- Participate in coordination meetings and drive technical resolutions in the model
- Communicate cross functionally with teams including, project, fabrication and in field.
Project, Field & Fabrication Support
- Establish BIM team priorities based on construction schedules and project needs.
- Ensure fabrication packages are complete, accurate and ready for production.
- Ensure field teams receive all required drawings, layouts and technical information.
- Support site teams with technical questions and constructability issues.
- Maintain continuity between design, fabrication and installation.
Role Requirements
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in BIM modelling, design coordination, or virtual construction within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Plumbing, HVAC, PMP, Gold Seal, or other construction-related certifications are considered assets
- Advanced proficiency with BIM and design software, including Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, BIM 360/ACC, and related coordination tools.
- Strong understanding of commercial mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and hydronic systems.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and construction best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and project milestones.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to model accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to team success.
- Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and leveraging technology to improve project delivery.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across multiple disciplines, fostering collaboration between design, fabrication, and field installation teams.
