Construction Site Supervisor
Jon Witzel Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced Construction Site Supervisor to oversee our high-end residential, agricultural, and commercial construction projects from pre-construction through final completion.
This leadership position is responsible for managing all aspects of field operations while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the exceptional quality standards our clients expect. The successful candidate will coordinate closely with project managers & coordinators, clients, designers, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to deliver projects with professionalism and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple construction projects simultaneously from site mobilization through occupancy and project closeout.
- Coordinate and supervise all phases of construction including excavation, foundations, concrete, framing, building envelope, mechanical, electrical, interior & exterior finishes, and final completion.
- Review architectural, structural, civil, and engineering drawings to accurately interpret project requirements and execute all construction activities.
- Complete all project site layout using Total Stations and surveying equipment, including establishing property lines, building locations, foundation layout, excavation limits, benchmark control, finished floor elevations, grades, and all required construction elevations to ensure accuracy throughout every phase of the project.
- Establish and verify benchmark elevations, finished grades, drainage elevations, and site control points to ensure compliance with engineered grading plans, municipal requirements, and project specifications.
- Coordinate site grading, excavation, and servicing to achieve proper elevations, drainage, and building placement prior to construction.
- Verify all building dimensions, setbacks, elevations, and layout throughout construction to ensure compliance with approved drawings, survey information, engineering requirements, and municipal regulations.
- Supervise subcontractors to ensure workmanship meets Jon Witzel Contracting Ltd.'s quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers & Coordinators to develop construction schedules, sequencing, procurement, and site logistics.
- Ensure all work complies with contract documents, engineering specifications, Ontario Building Code requirements, and project quality standards.
- Identify potential issues early and proactively resolve construction conflicts to minimize delays and cost overruns.
- Maintain strong communication with clients throughout construction while fostering positive working relationships.
- Maintain detailed daily site reports, progress documentation, deficiency lists, inspection records, safety documentation, and project files.
- Monitor project productivity, manpower, material deliveries, equipment utilization, and subcontractor performance.
- Demonstrate leadership in Health & Safety by ensuring compliance with Ontario Occupational Health & Safety legislation and company safety policies.
- Promote a professional, organized, and safety-focused job site while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience supervising residential, commercial, or agricultural construction projects.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously from start to completion.
- Extensive knowledge of site layout, surveying, grading, excavation, foundations, concrete, underground servicing, framing, structural systems, building envelope, and interior finishing.
- Advanced proficiency using Total Stations, surveying equipment, and construction layout techniques.
- Thorough understanding of grades, elevations, benchmark control, drainage, and engineered site servicing.
- Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code requirements, municipal approval processes, and construction best practices.
- Experience communicating with municipal building departments, inspectors, consultants, engineers, and regulatory authorities.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate subcontractors and field personnel.
- Strong organizational, scheduling, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication and client relationship skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and engineering drawings.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and construction project management software is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence with the ability to travel between multiple project sites.
