Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable person to provide exceptional and friendly service to all our members and customers. Efficiently manage the movement of freight and equipment within our yard. Manage inventory and load purchases. This role is essential for maintaining smooth operations, ensuring timely deliveries, and supporting overall logistics. The Yard Attendant will operate various types of heavy equipment and vehicles, including forklifts and commercial trucks, to transport freight safely to our customers. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic, attention to safety, and relevant skills in vehicle operation with a minimum class 5 driver's license.
Duties
- Safely operate forklifts and trucks to move freight and materials within the yard
- Load and unload freight from trucks, ensuring proper handling and securement
- Conduct routine inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and functionality
- Assist with the organization of freight storage areas for efficient access and inventory management
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures during operation of equipment and movement of freight
- Maintain accurate records of freight movements and equipment usage
- Ensure accurate and timely deliveries to our local members
- Ability to lift heavy loads throughout the shift
Skills
- Proven experience operating forklifts and commercial driving vehicles
- Knowledge of freight handling procedures and safety standards in a yard environment
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in a busy yard setting
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors
- Valid driver’s license (minimum class 5) with a clean driving record; certifications in forklift operation are a plus (training provided)
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
