The Role
The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is looking to add a Senior Business Systems Analyst to our Application Delivery team in Winnipeg.
You’ll play a crucial role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. We’re looking for someone who can…
Support Project implementations - 75%
- Work in partnership with preferred vendors to understand product roadmaps and recommend new solutions and ideas
Apply industry-standard methodologies – including Agile and SDLC frameworks
- - to translate business requests into functional requirements, prototypes, and technical solutions
- Develop detailed functional and nonfunctional requirements, system design specifications, workflow designs, data mapping, system specifications, and other documentation as required
- Work with architects and technical leads to understand, document, and evaluate software applications and system interfaces
- Evaluate current business problems and provide advice on the applicability and usability of alternative products or solutions
- Lead meetings to explain our technical landscape and complexities to all relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment to Architecture standards, regulatory requirements and/or security controls.
- Work with vendors and external partners to identify prioritization conflicts and propose alternative solutions or options
- Rationalize and document technology requirements that would match with proposed products/services to address stakeholder needs
- Contribute to the design of roadmaps for processes, applications, systems, new functionalities, data migration, and conversion
- Work with cross-functional teams to enhance player experience by understanding core offerings and identifying opportunities for enhancements in vendor solutions
- Work on multiple projects and meets deliverables through goal setting, time management, planning and leveraging practices and process to manage and simplify work
- Proactively seek out and recommend process, automation, and system opportunities to reduce manual effort/time and decrease implementation time
- Conduct and document impact and gap analysis
- Contribute to the maturity of the Systems Analysis domain using continued learning approach and IIBA standards
Help drive small enhancements - 25%
- Work in a collaborative, iterative environment to efficiently deliver enhancements and new features to existing systems and applications
- Evaluate requests for application enhancements or upgrades to determine impact to business and integration systems (downstream system dependencies and data feeds/API’s)
- Work with the Product Owner and other Business Analysts on the prioritization of the product backlog of user stories, and defining acceptance criteria sufficiently for testing
- Update living system documentation based on enhancements and changes
Qualifications
- Experience & Education Minimum 3+ years as a Senior Business Systems Analyst/System Analyst or 5+ years at the Intermediate level, including documenting system specifications, gap analyses, functional and non‑functional requirements, workflow diagrams, process models, and data‑mapping artifacts. Requires a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical & Analytical Skills Advanced experience with SQL, XML, JSON, functional specifications, process‑mapping tools (such as Visio), Jira, and Confluence. Skilled in evaluating system integrations, APIs, data flows, and downstream application impacts. Experience supporting digital transformation initiatives, enterprise platforms, and data‑driven solutions.
- Delivery & Methodology Expertise Demonstrated experience working within Agile and SDLC environments, including analysis, design, prototyping, integration, testing, deployment, and support of cloud‑based, vendor‑hosted, web, mobile, or enterprise applications. Experience collaborating with third‑party vendors, SaaS providers, and working within vendor‑managed services models.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Ability to work effectively in virtual, cross‑functional teams across geographies. Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to bridge business and technical teams.
