Arnason Accounting & Co. is a growing public practice firm just north of Calgary, and we're hiring a Tax Lead to own our personal tax and sole proprietor work end to end.
This isn't a back office prep seat. It's a department to build and run. If you've got real public practice experience and you actually like talking to clients, keep reading.
About the role
Your year runs in two speeds.
Off season, roughly spring through year end, you're the face of our personal tax and sole prop clients. You run the discovery calls, onboard new clients, handle mid year check ins, and build out the resources and systems for this whole department. When there's capacity, you'll support corporate and compilation files alongside the team.
Tax season, January through April, you run point and carry the majority of the personal tax (T1) and self employment prep. We need someone who's handled real volume and stays steady under deadline.
What you'll do
- Run all discovery calls and onboarding for personal tax and sole proprietor clients
- Handle mid year check ins and proactive client communication
- Build and maintain the templates, checklists, client guides, and workflows for the department
- Prepare the bulk of personal tax (T1) and self employment (T2125) returns during season
- Support corporate tax (T2) and compilation files in the off season
- Be a clear, friendly point of contact clients trust
What we're looking for
- Public practice experience. This is the must have.
- Strong personal tax and self employment preparation background, including sole proprietors
- Confident, client facing communication. You can explain tax in plain language.
- A builder mindset. You can create a process, not just work inside one.
- CPA, working toward it, or equivalent public practice depth. Experience matters more to us than the designation.
Assets
- Corporate tax (T2), compilation, or review engagement experience
- ProFile, Caseware, QuickBooks Online, Financial Cents
- Bookkeeping comfort when a file calls for it
What we offer
- $70,000 to $85,000 to start, depending on experience
- A Health Spending Account
- Flexible scheduling around core hours when the team overlaps
- Real ownership of a department in a small, collaborative firm
- The opposite of a big firm grind. Your voice is heard here.
To apply, send your resume and a short note on why this role fits you. Tell us something real. We read every one.
Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
Application question(s):
- How many years of Canadian public practice experience do you have?
- Do you have hands on personal tax preparation experience?
- Do you have hands on sole proprietor or self employment (T2125) experience?
- Have you worked directly with clients before, including things like discovery or intro calls?
- What's something you're weirdly good at that has nothing to do with accounting?
