Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety Officer, NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer), to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment across construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of construction safety protocols, experience managing safety programs, and familiarity with construction management software. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for implementing safety policies, conducting site inspections, and promoting a culture of safety excellence. Responsibilities:
As the Safety Officer on-site, you will support our Prime Contractor obligations by monitoring daily worksite activities and promoting a stellar safety culture. Your day-to-day will include:
- Subcontractor Management: including documentation, orientations, hazard assessments, safe work procedures, training records, inspections, incident reports, and corrective action follow-up. Monitor subcontractor and site activities to help ensure compliance with company, project, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Site Inspections, Invesitgations & Audits: Conduct formal and informal site inspections, field observations, and monthly jobsite inspections. Lead or participate in workplace audits, safety investigations, incident reviews, and corrective action tracking.
- Communication & Training: Administering safety committee meetings including agendas, minutes, and follow-up items., weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, subcontractor coordination meetings, and site-specific orientations for workers, subcontractors, and visitors. Communicate safety expectations clearly to workers, subcontractors, supervisors, project managers, and client representatives.
- Documentation: Using a computer and tablet to meticulously record inspections, audits, and meeting minutes. Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the company Health and Safety Manual. Conduct or support the annual COR audit.
- Field Support: Spending 50% or more of your time active in the field, working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
- Proven experience in construction safety management within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of OH&S regulations, local codes, and industry standards
- Construction experience is essential; familiarity with the utility industry is a plus
- Excellent communication skills to effectively train staff and communicate safety policies
- Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and risk assessments
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in recordkeeping and reporting
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for all personnel
Work Environment
This role is for the Manitoba Interlake area includes both office and field work. You can expect to work:
- In an office setting for reporting, documentation, meetings, and safety program administration.
- Outdoors on active construction multi-utility construction site
- Around subcontractor activity, heavy equipment, electrical hazards, vehicle traffic, and changing site conditions.
