JOB DESCRIPTION: General & Events Support Caretaker
POSITION TYPE: Casual/On-call, flexible hours including evenings and weekends required
$18-20/hr
PURPOSE:
- To work with the caretaker team to ensure the property is adequately prepared, clean, safe and secure for programs and any event taking place on the property
RESPONSIBILITIES
EVENTS
Help to monitor and facilitate site access for event rentals, and set-up and take-down for events
Act as the point of contact for event rentals, when needed.
Set-up and take-down for events, and be available to provide assistance as needed with security, cleaning and maintenance
Be familiar with regular events in the buildings and related requirements
Ensure events operate in compliance with Church of the Holy Trinity’s principles and policies
GENERAL CARETAKING
Unlock church buildings at the beginning of events and programs, and lock down at the end, providing a security check at the beginning and end of the day
Carry out all cleaning/maintenance tasks as assigned by the Lead Caretaker, and track tasks completed
Provide assistance in the set-up and take-down of community programs, as well as assistance with cleaning, maintenance and security during the programs
Receive deliveries and donations on behalf of programs, as needed
Assist service-users in accessing harm reduction supplies and other program supports during staff/volunteer shortage, and as needed
Monitor inventory and notify Lead Caretaker of supplies needed
Be familiar with fire safety systems, security systems & procedures
Participate in staff and caretaking meetings, and trainings
Adhere to all workplace health, safety regulations and Church of the Holy Trinity policies
Make recommendations to and work closely with Lead Caretaker
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work flexible hours as required including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed, while collaborating with a team
- Ability to provide hospitality to a wide range of people accessing our space including renters
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
- Experience in cleaning, minor repairs, and maintenance is an asset
- Fluency in languages other than English is an asset
- Organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills (e.g. word processing & email)
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY:
WORKING CONDITIONS
General & Events Support Caretaker works onsite. The work is fast-paced. This position includes a combination of sitting, standing, walking; standing for extended periods; bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing ladders, use of tools and operating equipment. There are no elevators in the buildings, only stairs. The work involves interacting with a wide range of people and involves regular stress and handling multiple demands effectively. There is a likelihood of exposure to unpredictable behavior, unpleasant odors, and bodily fluids. Due to the intense marginalization service-users face, this is a stressful and emotionally challenging work environment where there is the potential to be in threatening situations. However, employees can expect to receive training and support in dealing with these conditions.
