JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll and related functions in the Accounting Department, as well as assisting the Controller as needed.
SCHEDULE AND HOURS
- 30h/week
- Monday to Thursday (Flexible)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must enjoy serving people as well as performing multiple office tasks
- Be a strong team member, but have a strong ability to work independently with the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Competent data entry skills with careful attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with a strong numerical aptitude and ability to manage details
- High level of competence with computer programs including Windows, Word, and Excel, and a readiness to further develop these skills
- Level 1 Accounting, Introduction to Payroll certification with the NPI, and Payroll experience are preferred
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A commitment to integrity and confidentiality
DESIRED OUTCOMES AND ACTIVITIES
- Actively supporting and promoting Briercrest College and Seminary and Briercrest Accounting vision and mission
- Processing all hourly and salary payrolls
- Preparing payroll journal entries for payroll periods
- Reconciling payroll records to General Ledger Accounts
- Preparing monthly journal entries for various accounting reporting needs
- Maintaining associate payroll records
- Scanning Payroll documents as needed
- Maintaining Payroll records in Payworks and digital files
- Reporting to various managers, departments, and outside parties when requested by supervisor
- Providing managers with requested reports
- Interacting with Fiscal Auditors as needed
- Preparing Record of Employment forms for exiting associates when requested and directed by Human Resources
- Processes
- Hourly and Salary payroll cycles
- Maintaining Payroll Procedure Manual so it is accurate and current
- Maintaining Emergency Payroll process and information for use in the event of unexpected absence of Payroll Clerk or inability to complete payroll in normal fashion.
- Train backup personnel regularly to maintain emergency preparedness for Briercrest payroll.

- Administering the Matching RRSP Plan and Worker’s Compensation Benefits program
- Process payments for monthly billings for premiums and claims processed
- Create timely reporting and application process for disability benefits including short- and long-term disability and Worker’s Compensation when directed by Human Resources
- Human Resources
- Tracking and following updated payroll and labour legislation, maintaining the best practice policy in consultation with Controller and Human Resources
- Administrating the onboarding and exiting process for employees upon direction from the Human Resources Department
- Completing other duties as requested
TEAM RELATIONSHIPS
- The Payroll Clerk reports to the Controller
- This position functions within the Accounting Department and receives associate updates for payroll and benefits from with the Human Resources Department
