Purpose of the Position
The Gage Calibration Technician is responsible for the management, calibration, maintenance, tracking, and control of all measuring equipment, gauges, fixtures, checking fixtures, and masters throughout the facility. The incumbent ensures compliance with customer requirements, IATF 16949 requirements, internal procedures, and measurement system standards, including MSA and Gauge R&R studies
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High School Diploma. Quality Assurance Certificate.
- Knowledge and Skills: Ability to use measuring equipment, micrometers, verniers, height gauges. Understands inspection methods and procedures. Geometric dimensioning and tolerance preferred. Ability to read blueprints. Perform GR&R and MSA analysis. Ability to repairs and maintain gauges and various measuring devices.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are required for normal technical/business communication.
- Nature and Length of Experience: 2-3 years of experience in similar job and manufacturing environment preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the plant master list of all gauges, measuring equipment, fixtures, checking fixtures, and masters.
- Ensure all gauges and fixtures are properly identified, controlled, and traceable.
- Coordinate the creation, purchase, modification, repair, maintenance, and disposal of gauges and fixtures.
- Monitor gauge and fixture condition and initiate repairs or replacement when required.
- Support new program launches by ensuring gauges and fixtures are available, approved, and ready for production use.
- Manage internal and external calibration schedules for all measuring equipment throughout the facility.
- Perform internal calibrations where applicable and coordinate external calibration services.
- Review calibration certificates for compliance, accuracy, and traceability requirements.
- Ensure all measuring equipment is calibrated according to established frequencies and remove or quarantine overdue or nonconforming gauges.
- Maintain calibration records and measurement system data within IQS or other designated systems.
- Conduct Gauge R&R studies in accordance with AIAG MSA requirements.
- Support Bias, Linearity, Stability, and Attribute Agreement Studies as required.
- Analyze measurement system performance and recommend improvements to measurement processes.
- Utilize statistical tools, including Minitab, for Gauge R&R and measurement system analysis when applicable.
- Support customer PPAP submissions related to gauges, measurement systems, and calibration activities.
- Support internal, customer, and certification audits related to calibration and measurement systems.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements, customer-specific requirements, and internal procedures related to measurement equipment and calibration.
- Identify opportunities to improve measurement systems, gauge management processes, and calibration activities.
- Support root cause investigations and problem-solving activities related to measurement and gauge issues.
