Job Description
The Emergency Preparedness Advisor is responsible for the development, maintenance and testing of the Hospital’s emergency management program across all hospitals and off-site locations. In cooperation with regional partners, the Advisor is responsible for developing processes and procedures that prepare the organization for routine response to standardized emergency codes including response to critical facility downtime, missing and violent patients, as well as non routine emergency crisis incidents through the development and execution of policies, education and event simulations based on the standard Incident Management System (IMS).

Prepares and maintains corporate emergency preparedness program including mitigation, planning, response and recovery for all emergency codes and plans.

Develops and executes corporate emergency preparedness training and corporate emergency preparedness learning programs. Prepares orientation, policies, procedures and exercises relating to emergency incidents.Provides necessary project management and support for the hospital emergency preparedness plan to ensure compliance with all relevant Accreditation standards. Acts as a resource to department heads for emergency response procedures and staff training within various areas.

Collaborates with the Fire Safety Officer to promote fire safety throughout the organization by ensuring all training and safety plans align with the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code and authorities having Jurisdiction.

Develops and leads organization response to emergency codes as per OHA standards including but not limited to code yellow, code amber, code white, code black, code purple and code grey.

Develops and maintains liaisons with regional partners including Public Health, EMS, Police and Fire Departments to facilitate planning of coordinated emergency response.

Develops and executes live action simulation exercises to test the coordinated response of the hospital and community partners to simulated emergencies such as Code Silver or Code Orange.

Co-chairs the Emergency Preparedness Coordinating Committee which is responsible for the development, review and endorsement of all Code response documents for the organization.

Acts as the secondary fire safety and response expert for Halton Healthcare and is the backup liaison to the municipal Fire Departments
Qualifications

Post-Secondary Degree plus a Community College certificate in Emergency Management or a combination of equivalent experience and education

Minimum of 5 years related experience (ie, working with disaster planning, emergency management or emergency preparedness and/or healthcare environment)

Demonstrated project planning/management skills

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence diverse audiences

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications

Fire Safety Training is an asset

Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour shifts; 0800-1600 (Hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $49.185 to $61.507 per hour
