Job Title: Landscape Labourer (Student)
Reports to: Operations Supervisor, Silver Maple Landscaping/Maintenance Field Supervisor
Job Type: Temporary, Full Time
Location: Waterloo, Ontario
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Landscape Labourer (Student) is a member of the landscaping team and receives day-to-day instruction from the Lead Hand. This role requires a dependable, hardworking, and physically capable individual with a basic understanding of landscaping practices and procedures with the ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
Workplace safety is a fundamental part of this position. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in hazard prevention, follow established safety procedures, use personal protective equipment appropriately, and contribute to a positive safety culture on all worksites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety:
- Follow all established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
- Promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents to a supervisor.
- Participate in required health and safety meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including job sites, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations for Construction Projects, and all applicable legislation.
- Follow company health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Safely operate, inspect, and report any issues with tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with coworkers, Lead Hands, and supervisors to promote and uphold a positive safety culture on site.
General Landscaping:
- Act as an active crew member, supporting the completion of landscaping projects, including:
- Landscape maintenance (ex. operating trimmers and push mowers)
- Hardscape work
- Landscape design and installation
- Fence and deck installation
- Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the worksite.
- Support the care and routine maintenance of company-owned or rented tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled in High School or Post-Secondary program
- Must be 16 years of age or older to work on a Construction site as per the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Access to reliable transportation. Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is considered an asset
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid training and tool/equipment training with valid record of training are considered an asset.
- Physically fit with the ability to carry, lift up to 100 lbs

- Able to communicate competently and effectively in the English language
