A Loving Spoonful is seeking a Kitchen Manager to join our wonderful, fast-paced, and compassionate team. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, working with the Executive Chef and reporting to the Operations Manager. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. The position includes a generous benefits package after six months of employment.
The Organization
A Loving Spoonful is a dynamic not-for-profit organization. We are a volunteer-driven charitable society delivering free meals and nutritional support to individuals and families living with HIV and other co-existing illnesses, while also supporting vulnerable populations through subsidized meal programs.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Kitchen Manager to oversee daily kitchen operations, meal production, inventory management, food safety compliance, deliveries and volunteer support. The successful candidate will join a dedicated and energetic team committed to making a meaningful impact in our community.
Qualifications and the Candidate
This is a diverse leadership role in a fast-moving environment with potential for growth. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with experience managing commercial or institutional food service operations. The ideal candidate will be organized, resourceful, collaborative, and excited to contribute to an important community organization.
Kitchen Operations
- Oversee daily kitchen operations and meal production schedules
- Coordinate preparation, packaging, and storage of meals
- Ensure recipes, production standards, and portion controls are followed
- Maintain quality control standards for all meals and food products
- Work closely with the Executive Chef on menu execution and production requirements
- Assist in developing efficient kitchen systems and procedures
- Ensure production targets and meal delivery timelines are achieved
Inventory and Purchasing
- Manage inventory of food, packaging, cleaning supplies, and kitchen equipment
- Submit weekly order forms for food and supplies
- Coordinate receiving and storage of donated food products within the kitchen
- Monitor food costs and minimize waste
- Maintain inventory records and usage reports
Food Safety
- Ensure compliance with FoodSafe standards and health regulations
- Maintain temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and food safety records
- Ensure proper food handling, labeling, storage, and sanitation procedures
- Coordinate maintenance and servicing of kitchen equipment
Volunteer and Staff Support
- Provide leadership, training, and support to kitchen staff and volunteers
- Coordinate volunteer participation in meal preparation, packaging, and kitchen activities
- Work collaboratively with the Community Engagement coordinator to ensure volunteers have a positive and productive experience
- Support onboarding and training of kitchen volunteers
Delivery Coordination
- Oversee meal delivery logistics
- Assist with delivery routes and driver coordination as required
- Support meal distribution/packing and catering deliveries
- Drive the organization's cargo van for deliveries and pick-ups when required
Driving
- Valid BC Driver's Licence required
- Comfortable operating a cargo van and completing deliveries throughout the Lower Mainland
Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
