Position: Maintenance Technician
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Smith's Quality Meats is a well-established meat processing facility in Winnipeg, recognized for our commitment to quality and food safety. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our maintenance team and help ensure the efficient operation of our production equipment and facility.
This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical components, and the ability to read and interpret schematics. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment such as conveyors, grinders, slicers, packaging machines, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Diagnose and correct issues with power transmission systems, pumps, motors, and other mechanical components.
Perform welding, fabricating, and machining as needed for repairs and equipment modifications.
✅ Preventive Maintenance & Optimization:
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
Maintain maintenance logs and update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Recommend and implement improvements to increase equipment efficiency and longevity.
✅ Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all work is performed according to company safety policies and regulatory guidelines.
Assist in identifying and correcting potential safety hazards in the workplace.
Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
✅ Collaboration & Troubleshooting:
Work closely with production supervisors and operators to minimize equipment downtime and disruptions.
Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and process improvements.
Provide input and recommendations on spare parts inventory and maintenance planning.
✅ Continuous Improvement:
Identify and propose equipment modifications or process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Participate in problem-solving initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational improvements.
Support lean manufacturing initiatives by suggesting ways to streamline maintenance procedures and reduce waste.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance maintenance and repair processes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial, food processing, or manufacturing environment.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, pumps, gear systems, and electrical system.
Valid Manitoba Journeyman Certificate or Red Seal endorsement is an asset.
Prior experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track and document maintenance activities.
Welding, fabrication, and plumbing experience are considered assets.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and ability to follow safety protocols.
