About the Role
We are seeking a talented and experienced Florist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for floral design, excellent customer service skills, and a strong background in retail floral operations. This role offers an opportunity to create beautiful arrangements for weddings, events, and retail, assist customers, and contribute to a welcoming shopping environment.
The position requires a detail-oriented individual with great time-management and organizational skills and a flair for creativity, ensuring every arrangement exceeds customer expectations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Floral Design: Design and assemble high-quality floral arrangements for various occasions, including weddings, events, and everyday retail orders.
- Customer Service & Sales: Assist customers in selecting flowers and related products, providing expert advice on floral care and design options. Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Daily Operations & POS: Operate POS systems for sales transactions, handle cash and credit payments accurately, and balance registers at shift end.
- Shop Upkeep: Process fresh flowers (cutting stems, cleaning, removing leaves/thorns), maintain plant care, wash vases/buckets, and keep the display area attractive, organized, and well-stocked.
- Inventory & Ordering: Manage inventory levels of flowers, foliage, containers, and supplies; place orders as needed.
- E-Commerce & Delivery: Utilize e-commerce platforms to process online orders, coordinate delivery or pickup arrangements, and deliver flowers to local homes and businesses.
- Merchandising & Events: Engage in merchandising efforts to promote seasonal flowers and special promotions. Assist with wedding and event setup.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience as a Florist (Minimum 1 year required and retail floristry experience preferred)
- Skills: Strong knowledge of floriculture, cut flower care, conditioning, and plant maintenance practices. Knowledge of merchandising strategies and e-commerce platforms related to floral retailing is an asset.
- Technical: Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling, and retail sales procedures.
- Licence: Valid BC Driver's Licence with a minimum of 2 years of driving history.
- Work Authorization: Valid work authorization in Canada (no cash work).
- Commitment: Looking for long-term, year-round employment (not seasonal). Ability to work flexible hours including weekends or holidays.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customers.
- Physical & Workflow: Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining a high attention to detail. Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift heavy buckets of water, vases, and boxes of supplies.
