Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Forklift Operator to join our team at a busy lumber mill. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a forklift in an outdoor or industrial setting, with a strong understanding of load handling, workplace safety, and general warehouse procedures. You will be responsible for moving lumber products, supporting production and shipping, and maintaining a clean and organized yard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate counterbalance forklift to load, unload, and transport lumber products across the yard and within the facility
- Move large and irregularly shaped materials such as plywood, beams, and lumber bundles
- Assist with shipping and receiving, including loading/unloading flatbeds and verifying product types and counts
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report any maintenance or safety issues
- Maintain safe and clean working conditions in outdoor and indoor environments
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE
- Support inventory control through proper stacking, tagging, and organizing of materials
- Communicate with supervisors and team members to ensure smooth workflow and accurate material movement
- Assist in general yard and warehouse duties as required
Requirements:
- Valid Forklift Certification (Counterbalance preferred; additional certifications an asset)
- Minimum 4 year of forklift experience, preferably in a lumber or industrial setting
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 50–70 lbs as needed
- Strong attention to safety, surroundings, and equipment handling
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable and punctual
Preferred:
Experience working in a lumber yard, sawmill, or building materials warehouse
Familiarity with different types of lumber and building materials
