Starting rate $37.00/hour, with the potential to reach $45.00/hour (commensurate with proven skills & experience, & incremental increases)

Freeman Lumber is one of North America’s oldest family‑run sawmills, proudly operating in Greenfield, NS since 1832. Our 200‑person team runs a highly automated, fast‑paced operation.
We’re looking for an Electrician who enjoys hands‑on work, solving problems, and keeping advanced equipment running at its best. The position has the option to become a lead role, with responsibilities to assist with training and the delegation of work within the team, offering steady work, strong team support, and the opportunity to advance in responsibilities, as knowledge of the plants' systems increases.
What You Will Do
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Industrial Sawmill Log and Lumber
- Processing PLC‑based automated equipment and plant power systems
- Diagnose and repair issues with Variable Frequency Drives, Soft Starters, Motor Control Centres, Sensors, PLC hardware/software, and networking systems
- Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, and parameter adjustments
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints
- Work closely with Mechanics, Supervisors, and Operations to maximize uptime
- Support new installations and planned maintenance
- Follow and promote safe work practices, including lockout procedures
What You Will Bring
- Electrical certification (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in industrial installation and troubleshooting
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical/electronic systems
- Experience with Allen Bradley (Logix Family)
- Knowledge of PLC logic, frequency drives, distributed I/O, and control networks
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Mechanical aptitude would be an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft, Allen Bradley and other programming tools
- Be comfortable working in varied indoor and outdoor environments
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability for shiftwork, weekends, and holidays
