Progressive Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and experienced Assistant Principal to join our vibrant learning community in Edmonton. Since 1984, Progressive Academy has provided exceptional education from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, fostering academic excellence, creativity, responsibility, and a lifelong love of learning. This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished educator who is passionate about both teaching and educational leadership. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal to support the daily operation of the school while maintaining a teaching assignment. The teaching schedule and assignment will be based on the school's needs and the successful candidates strengths (from Grades 4 to 12).

As Assistant Principal, you will play an integral role in supporting instructional excellence, student success, staff development, and school operations while continuing to make a meaningful impact in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Responsibilities
- Support the Principal in the day-to-day leadership and operation of the school.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture that promotes student well-being, academic achievement, and character development.
- Provide instructional leadership by supporting curriculum implementation, assessment practices, and effective teaching strategies.
- Mentor and support teachers through coaching, collaboration, and professional growth opportunities.
- Assist with student discipline, attendance, behavioural support, and restorative practices.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
- Assist with supervision, staff scheduling, school events, emergency procedures, and operational planning.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Alberta curriculum.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student well-being and academic success.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress using a variety of assessment strategies.
- Foster the development of strong literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Establish and maintain effective classroom management practices that encourage respect, responsibility, and collaboration.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievement, progress, and classroom activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning and contribute to school initiatives.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching practices to support student engagement and learning.
- Participate in school events, field trips, parent-teacher conferences, professional development activities, and extracurricular programs as appropriate.
- Support the social, emotional, and character development of students in alignment with the school's values and mission.
Qualifications & Education
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent teaching degree from a recognized institution.
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain certification prior to the start date).
- Strong knowledge of the Alberta curriculum and effective instructional practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Several years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting through formal or informal leadership roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience differentiating instruction to support diverse learning needs.
- Experience contributing to extracurricular activities, clubs, or school programs.
- Experience supporting staff professional development and instructional improvement.
- Experience leading school initiatives, committees, or strategic planning.
Certifications & Requirements
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain certification prior to the start date).
- Current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (required prior to employment).
- First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
