Purpose
This position reports to the Dome Open Pit General Foreperson.
To organize, coordinate and direct site services and required site maintenance activities, ensuring that the work is performed in the safest and most effective manner by managing all resources towards complying to the maintenance schedules with the least negative impact to the production plan.
Responsibilities
Health Safety and Environment
- Promote and adhere to Discovery Porcupines environmental and sustainability policies.
- Promote the values of fatality risk management in the workplace, ensuring employees receive feedback on any safety issues, performance (leading and lagging indicators), improvements and acknowledgments
- Ensure Discovery’s safety initiatives are implemented and followed. These include daily huddles, fatality risk management, 5 - point safety system, job task observations, critical control verifications, safety meetings, etc.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners and agencies (i.e. JH&SC, Union, MOL, MOE, WSN)
- Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate people to work safely.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, identify risks and hazards and take corrective measures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures as required.
- Ensure crews receive training / accreditation in the jobs they are expected to perform
Managing People
- Ensure that all employees and contractors have the tools and systems in place so work can be performed safely and efficiently.
- Guide and coach individuals towards reaching personal and company goals.
- Identify opportunities for improvements (training, tools, etc) and implement corrective actions when required.
- Complete performance reviews as required on all direct reports in a timely and professional manner.
- Develop action plans and follow up throughout the year.
- Utilize the progressive discipline process as required to drive accountability.
Strategic Planning
- Coordinate and manage yard service employees and contractors and material movement.
- Promote and build a positive and co-operative working relationship with all departments keeping safety, production and costs as primary elements to meet the mine plan.
- Promote safety, PM compliance, equipment availability and cost control.
- Prepare dig permits and locates for work on buried services when required.
- Coordinate and ensure production targets are met as forecasted, within budget and safety parameters.
- Assist with planning and implementation of support projects.
Contract Management
- Coordinate and manage contracts associated with site services and site landfill
Training and Education
- Completion of high school
- Valid "G" driver's license
- Project management experience is an asset
- 3 to 5 years of experience in open pit mining or site maintenance supervision
- 3 years supervisory experience in a supervisory capacity
- Require good troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
- A general understanding of the site and shop areas is an asset
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive total compensation package including:

- Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; and
- Annual total compensation of CAD$139,895 to CAD$172,811 (including annual bonus eligibility).
