Salary: Base $3250 - $4,500 per month plus Add-on Incentives
Schedule: Day, evening, and weekend availability required

About the Role
Fencing Calgary is seeking a passionate Fencing Coach (Épée‑Focused) to join our coaching team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The role is responsible for delivering high‑quality fencing instruction to children, youth, and adults across club programs, community programs, and school‑based instruction.
The ideal candidate combines épée expertise with practical coaching experience, strong teaching ability, excellent communication, and a passion for helping athletes thrive.
They are committed to fostering a safe, positive, and supportive training environment, providing engaging and effective coaching for participants of all ages and experience levels.
The candidate will work with a team to contribute to the organization’s long‑term success.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
· Lead épée‑focused fencing classes for a wide range of ages and skill levels.
· Deliver group lessons, private lessons, and individualized technical development.
· Create or follow structured lesson plans to deliver engaging, motivating sessions.
· Develop training plans that support athlete progress and long‑term growth.
· Mentor youth leaders and junior instructors to support their development.
Environment & Safety
· Ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive, and positive training environment at all times.
· Manage equipment maintenance, repair, and safety checks.
· Responsible for facility opening, closure and safety checks.
Communication & Program Support
· Communicate effectively with families, athletes, and staff to support retention and ongoing development.
· Support events, team activities, and program logistics.
Competition Support
· Support athletes at external events and competitions, providing coaching and guidance.
Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years as a participant in a structured fencing program (club or university)
· Minimum 2 years club-level coaching experience (épée preferred)
· Secondary (high school) certificate
· NCCP Fencing Coach – trained or on the certification pathway (or equivalent experience)
· Strong communication, organization, and group management skills
· Ability to motivate and engage participants of all ages, with direct experience working with children and youth
· Strong communicator and team player, with a positive and professional attitude
· Leadership or teaching experience outside fencing is an asset
Requirements
· Ability to Work in Canada: Applicant must possess legal authorization to work in Canada
· Language: Must be fluent in English (spoken, written)
· Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Record Check
· Safe Sport Certification
· CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to get it)
· Proficiency and Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
· Ability to work day, evenings and weekends
· Travel locally to all Calgary program locations
· Travel to competitions and events
