Position Summary
Shift Energy Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated Architectural Sheet Metal Roofer to join our Victoria team. The successful candidate will fabricate, install, repair, and maintain architectural sheet metal roofing and building envelope systems, including metal roofing, wall cladding, flashings, soffits, fascia, gutters, and waterproofing components. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively at heights and in various weather conditions.
Architectural sheet metal workers prepare, fabricate, and install metal roofs, wall systems, flashings, gutters, downspouts, soffits, and other building envelope components.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and work orders.
- Measure, mark, cut, bend, and form sheet metal materials according to project requirements.
- Install architectural metal roofing systems, wall panels, flashings, copings, soffits, fascia, gutters, and downspouts.
- Fabricate and assemble sheet metal components using hand tools, power tools, brakes, shears, and other metalworking equipment.
- Install waterproofing membranes, air/vapour barriers, and building envelope components as required.
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and replacement of metal roofing and cladding systems.
- Operate lifts, scaffolding, ladders, and fall-protection equipment safely.
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe worksite in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, forepersons, and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
- Complete daily safety inspections and participate in toolbox meetings.
These duties align with recognized architectural sheet metal and sheet metal worker responsibilities in British Columbia, including interpreting drawings, measuring and fabricating metal components, installing sheet metal products, and working with roofing and building envelope systems.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of experience in architectural sheet metal roofing, cladding, or building envelope construction.
- Experience installing metal roofing systems and flashings.
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights.
- Strong knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
Preferred
- Architectural Sheet Metal Worker Apprenticeship or Journeyperson certification.
- Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform (EWP), and First Aid certifications.
- Experience with standing seam roofing systems, ACM panels, and commercial roofing projects.
- Knowledge of BC building envelope and waterproofing practices.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor construction environments year-round.
- Frequent work at heights on roofs, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
- Physically demanding work including lifting, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
- Travel to project sites throughout Greater Victoria and surrounding regions may be required.
