About Us
At Packaging Innovation Inc., we manufacture and deliver cutting-edge packaging solutions to a diverse portfolio of clients. As our business continues to grow, we are optimizing our financial infrastructure. We are seeking a highly analytical, leadership-driven Assistant Controller for a focused, 6-month contract on-site at our Mississauga headquarters to manage day-to-day corporate accounting and drive high-level financial reporting.
Position Overview
The Assistant Controller will be a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing our routine accounting functions while taking complete ownership of corporate reporting, analysis, and compliance. You will directly supervise a team of two—an Accounts Officer (AP & Payroll) and an Accounts Receivables Officer—ensuring operational accuracy. Additionally, you will lead inventory valuation, manage bank reporting, and prepare executive-level presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Supervision: Oversee and mentor the day-to-day workflows of the Accounts Officer (handling AP, HST, payroll, and banking) and the Accounts Receivables Officer to ensure timely and precise execution.
- Reporting & Analysis: Compile and analyze comprehensive monthly financial statements, investigate variances, and prepare strategic management presentations for executive leadership.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Manage monthly and periodic inventory valuation, review production data from Labeltraxx, and post required journal adjustments. Maintain the fixed asset ledger, ensuring accurate accounting for capital cost allowance (CCA) and amortization.
- Banking & Compliance: Act as the primary technical point of contact for external banking partners, preparing and submitting required covenant reporting, margin sheets, and borrowing base certificates.
- Taxation: Ensure corporate tax compliance, overseeing complex HST filings, intercompany tax treatments, and payroll compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Professional Designation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. A CPA designation (or near completion) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior accounting role within a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial packaging environment.
- Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and strong working knowledge of manufacturing ERP platforms (experience with Labeltraxx is a major asset). High-level MS Excel skills are mandatory for financial modeling and analysis.
- Technical Accounting Depth: Strong expertise in inventory accounting (standard costing, work-in-progress, adjustments) and capital asset management (amortization schedules).
- Location & Availability: Ability to work full-time, in-person at our Mississauga facility, and commit fully to the 6-month contract duration.
What We Offer
- Competitive contract salary/rate tailored to experience.
- A collaborative, fast-paced environment where you can make a major operational impact.
