Cambrian College’s Applied Research and Innovation department requires an Applied Research Technologist, Dual Use Mining and Defence Equipment Designer, on a one-year internship basis.

The Applied Research Technologist, Dual Use Mining Defence Equipment Designer will play a key role in the collaborative research, development, and testing initiatives between Cambrian R&D and its partners. The incumbent will be based within the Mechanical Division at Cambrian R&D and will be responsible for:

Supporting engineering, design, fabrication and testing activities related to dual use mining and defence equipment.

Collecting, analyzing and reporting on system performance data for mechanical, vehicle, and integrated equipment systems

Supporting validation testing for new mechanical, automation, and dual use technologies for mining and defence applications

Acting as a technical liaison between Cambrian R&D and its clients, ensuring alignment of research, design, fabrication and its development efforts

Participating in project meetings, providing input on engineering feasibility, design methodologies, fabrication requirements, testing procedures and data analysis

Working with industry partners, engineering teams, and fabrication staff to integrate feedback from field testing into iterative design improvements

Developing technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs) test reports, and design documentation

Ensuring proper setup and operation of fabrication equipment, prototype builds, and testing environments for various project requirements

Assisting in training sessions and workshops for students and industry professionals on advanced mining, mechanical, and dual use technologies

Contributing to industry knowledge sharing through presentations, publications and collaborative events
