Hazmat and Asbestos Technician - Vancouver Island, BC

Our client is currently looking for an experienced professional to join their team in Nanaimo, BC, for a project-based role in complex deconstruction and engineered demolition. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient execution of demolition projects while adhering to strict health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities
- Conduct demolition, hazardous material removal, and site cleanup of existing structures.
- Prepare job sites for general construction activities.
- Establish and maintain construction containment zones, including decontamination showers.
- Perform hazardous material abatement, including asbestos removal, under supervision.
- Assist with general labor tasks and site cleanup.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, focusing on asbestos abatement and occupational health & safety.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Wear specialized PPE, including full hazmat suits and respirators.

Qualifications
- Valid BC Asbestos Awareness, Level 2 or 3 certification.
- Experience in hazardous material removal or asbestos abatement preferred.
- A valid driver’s license an asset.
- Ability to travel to various work sites across Vancouver Island.
- Able to perform tasks in deconstructed and contaminated environments.
- Able to lift, push, and pull up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Ability to navigate varied terrain, kneel, bend, and stretch throughout shifts.
