Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, hardworking individual with a strong ecological background to support invasive species management and habitat restoration projects. This role involves fieldwork in demanding outdoor conditions.
Work will vary by site and season, and may include:
- Spot-spraying targeted invasive plants in sensitive habitat
- Working in open fields, wetlands, forests, and public green spaces
- Mixing, loading, and applying herbicides/pesticides
- Recording treatment details and field observations
- Carrying, loading, unloading, and maintaining spray equipment
- Travelling across Southern Ontario, including occasional multi-night fieldwork
This is physically demanding outdoor work. Candidates should be prepared for long days, uneven terrain, heat, insects, dense vegetation, wet conditions, and remote work locations.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Valid Ontario Pesticide Exterminator License
- Valid G Class Driver’s License
- Hands-on experience applying herbicides/pesticides
- Strong plant identification skills
- Availability to work long, irregular hours
- Willingness to travel for multi-night fieldwork in remote locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to follow printed maps and use GPS units
- Experience operating off-road vehicles
- Post-secondary education in horticulture, forestry, ecology, or a related field
- Self-motivated and confident working independently in the field
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
