As part of Financial services, the Financial Reporting department prepares all internal management reporting and all external compliance financial reporting for the University of Victoria and its consolidated entities. The department is responsible for the production and delivery of reliable, relevant, accurate and timely financial statements, and reports for both internal management purposes and external users.
Mandate:
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and working with a team of Financial Accountants, the Accounting Analyst maintains financial systems, provides client support to users across the university and supports the production of the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting and statutory filings for the university and its related entities.
Objectives:
- Perform accounting functions, including reviewing and posting journal entries, and reviewing transactions to detect and correct errors.
- Support and deliver accounting and finance related training to users across the university as well as providing on-going support.
- Administrate finance-related system access and maintain financial systems.
- Assist senior team members with financial statement preparation and other compliance reporting and filings.
- Participation in special projects
This position applies Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as applicable and prevailing Canada Revenue Agency legislation in performing daily tasks.
