Seeking a math and reading assistant to provide classroom instruction in a classroom setting for students grades K-12.
Math instruction can range from teaching basic number sense to common math operations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and manipulating fractions. Knowledge of algebra, advanced algebra and trigonometry would be an asset in this position. Compensation would be based on your level of comfort with various math and reading materials. Reading instruction may include phonics and whole-word reading, grammar, comprehension, and summary/precis for pre-readers through high school.
Typical Kumon students are enrolled either to "catch up" at school or are seeking advanced study beyond their current school grade. Therefore, Assistants must be flexible and able to work with a diverse range of students.
Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide in-class grading and assignment support for students engaged in math/reading programs of study. We are looking for an assistant with a strong sense of motivation and who is able to recognize the needs of the classroom and act appropriately. Assistants may also support class and classroom preparation include pulling and prepping student assignments, organizing assignments for class, keeping the Instructor informed of student learning needs, and ensuring the classroom is neat and orderly for class.
Candidates must be available for at least 3 of the following four shifts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 3:00-7:00pm. We are seeking candidates who desire long-term, part-time employment, are capable of reliably attending class, and have a strong background in math or reading (English or early-reader specialties). Strong customer-service skills and ability to work effectively with students are required. Experience with the Kumon Program would be a plus (e.g. Kumon parent or previous kumon student).
