Position Overview
The Health and Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in the development, execution, and sustainability of BELFOR’s occupational health and safety programs.
With a hands-on approach, you will lead initiatives to reduce risks, investigate incidents, support return-to-work processes, and foster a proactive safety-first culture. You’ll support safe operations at project sites and within our teams every day. Acting as a trusted resource to managers, supervisors, and employees, this role delivers practical solutions to ensure compliance with corporate policies, legal regulations, and industry best practices.
What You’ll Do:

Maintain and manage employee safety training records and safety data systems

Plan and support safety protocols for new project start-ups, including site safety plans and worksite audits

Develop and enforce safe work practices in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation

Ensure compliance with company-wide safety policies for employees, subcontractors, and clients

Manage WCB claims, return-to-work plans, and injury documentation

Act as the lead safety liaison for project teams, conducting regular inspections and safety audits

Promote accident prevention through health and safety initiatives, trend analysis, and recommendations

Prepare and distribute safety reports, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and related documentation

Lead or support incident investigations and ensure implementation of corrective actions

Collaborate with Health and Safety Committee members to ensure compliance and certification standards

Assist with onboarding new hires through health and safety orientations, PPE setup, WHMIS/asbestos training, and respirator fit testing

Maintain COR (Certificate of Recognition) status by completing internal audits and supporting external reviews

Monitor legislation and industry standards by attending ongoing training, conferences, and updates

Operate in accordance with BELFOR’s policies and procedures for a safe work environment

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Safety
What You Bring:

Post-secondary education or certification in Occupational Health and Safety or related field

Self-Starter with the ability to work amongst a remote Health & Safety team
-
Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements

Excellent communication skills and ability to engage diverse teams in safety practices
-
Ability to conduct inspections, analyze safety data, and lead safety investigations
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety data management systems

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job sites as needed

Familiarity with COR auditing procedures and WCB claims management
-
Experience in construction, restoration, or insurance industry environments is an asset

Working Conditions

Due to the nature of our business, this position will work normal business hours but may be required to work in the evenings or outside normal working hours

Manual dexterity for keyboarding, repetitive tasks, and prolonged periods of computer use, demanding attention to detail and high levels of accuracy

Periodic travel required approx. 20-30% per month
