About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an elderly woman who values her independence while needing support with daily activities. She lives at home with family nearby and speaks Greek as her primary language. She uses mobility aids and requires assistance with transfers and walking. Her family is exploring care options after recognizing she needs more consistent support, particularly as her daughter returns to teaching in September. The family has met with potential caregivers and values building a strong connection before committing to long-term care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide mobility support and assistance with transfers using walker or wheelchair
- Help with bathing and dressing while respecting dignity and independence
- Prepare meals according to preferences and dietary needs
- Provide medication reminders to ensure proper adherence
- Complete light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and laundry
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support
- Engage in companionship and conversation in Greek
- Monitor safety and well-being during visits
What We're Looking For:
- Fluent Greek speaker who can communicate comfortably with the client
- Experience with mobility assistance and transfer techniques
- Patient, calm demeanor with seniors who have cognitive changes
- Reliable and consistent with strong communication skills
- Ability to make the client feel comfortable and respected
- Takes initiative while honoring independence
- Relevant caregiving skills and experience with personal care
- Understanding that building trust takes time with seniors
Schedule:
Starting with one visit per week (3 hours per visit) on Wednesday afternoons from 1:15 PM to 4:15 PM. The family prefers a gradual approach to build comfort and trust, with potential to increase hours as the relationship develops. Flexibility around statutory holidays with alternative scheduling as needed. Care needs to be established before September when family availability decreases due to school schedules.
