Lean Material Strategy (LMS) Lead

We are seeking a Lean Material Strategy (LMS) Lead to support the development and execution of lean material strategies that drive operational excellence across the plant.
In this role, you will work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, supply chain, launch, and leadership teams to develop efficient material flow systems and support the plant’s long-term material handling and automation vision. This position plays a critical role in optimizing throughput, supporting launch readiness, and ensuring sustainable lean processes.
Extended working hours, weekend support, and varying shift schedules may be required at times to support program development and launch execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of all plant Lean Material Strategies (LMS), including:
- material flow
- material routings
- storage space requirements
- mobile equipment fleet management
- layout development
- small lot strategy
- plan for every part (PFEP)
- Integrate Lean Material Strategies (LMS) and General Motors Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles into plant operations
- Drive best practices, common standards, lean designs, and standardized processes across general assembly operations
- Support plant optimization targets through material planning metrics, including Distance Per Part (DPP)
- Utilize PFEP (Place for Every Part) methodology to develop efficient:
- route planning
- dock strategies
- material flow systems
- Validate GMOS (Global Material Optimization System) and standardized work processes
- Analyze current operations and lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, throughput, and quality
- Standardize and track internal and corporate benchmarks for material flow and material handling
- Ensure adherence to plant safety procedures and ergonomic standards
- Lead mobile equipment tracking and repair strategy development for both manual and automated systems
- Support problem-solving activities related to throughput constraints and quality issues
- Partner with Project Engineering teams to support material automation strategy development and implementation
- Support steady-state production readiness and major launch execution activities
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to plant leadership and internal customers
- Travel as required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Industrial, Material, or Packaging disciplines,
- or
- Minimum 2 years of equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in:
- Supply Chain
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Manufacturing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Working knowledge of:
- manufacturing and assembly processes
- supply chain processes
- work measurement and work standards
- ergonomic principles
- facility layout and material optimization
- Basic understanding of equipment and repair processes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Project, Word, and PowerPoint
- Proven project management experience
- Demonstrated success driving continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong influence, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

Pay: $60,000.00-$66,000.00 per year
